Frequently Asked Questions
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is all about helping you function to your absolute best. Whether you are in pain or not. Chiropractic is the art of removing any interference within your body to allow it to do what it does best and that is to heal and thrive. Those who want to get the most out of their body and life, choose regular chiropractic care.
Chiropractic works by helping improve how your nervous system is working. As we know, the brain controls every single function of the body, and with that the human body has an innate ability to self-heal and self-regulate. Chiropractic works with the spine to remove any pressure or interference upon the brain, spinal cord and entire nervous system. Therefore, allowing the body to reconnect and work to its best ability.
Chiropractic is for everybody, not just those in pain. It is never too late to start your chiropractic journey and certainly it is never too early.
Chiropractic helps to get the sick people well and keep the well people at their best!
What is Mctimoney Chiropractic and how is it different?
McTimoney technique specifically uses, what is known as, a low-force high-amplitude adjusting technique. What this means is, Mctimoney Chiropractors use a wide range of adjustments, which may seem light, but focus on speed, dexterity, and a high level of accuracy to ensure the desired outcome.
It therefore, does not create the “crack” or popping sound typically associated with Chiropractic adjustments. Due to this, McTimoney is considered one of the gentlest forms of chiropractic care.
With each visit, your body will be assessed as a whole, rather than simply focussing on the area of pain. As much as pain is a clear indicator of an issue, this holistic approach allows the practitioner to assess if the pain location is actually the route cause of the issue.
In Chiropractic care, one of the number one principals is that we will find the cause of your problem, rather than just treating the symptoms.
Is it just for back/neck pain?
Absolutely not! We can treat a multitude of other conditions around the musculoskeletal and nervous system. If you are not sure if Chiropractic is for you, please do get in contact and we can have a discussion about how I might be able to help you.
What can I expect from my first appointment?
At your first visit I will have already read though your intake form thoroughly to have a good understanding of the reason for your visit. However, upon your arrival you will have a chance to discuss with me in your own words any additional information you feel is necessary.
After this I will take a look at your entire spine and do any subsequent orthopaedic or neurological testing necessary to ensure we get to the route cause of your problem. Once identifying the main cause for complaint I will usually perform one “test” adjustment at consultation, to see how your joints are moving, and how you move afterwards.
At the end of the appointment I will invite you to book your “Report of Findings”, where we can discuss exactly what is going on, how we can help, and how long everything may take to improvements.
Do adjustments hurt?
No, generally adjustments do not hurt. The aim of an adjustment is to create more ease within the body. However, some patients are in a lot of pain, and therefore because they are in pain already, the positions required to give the adjustments can be a little uncomfortable.
Are Chiropractors real doctors?
Yes. The “Chiropractor” title is protected by law and chiropractors are regulated by statute. The General Chiropractic Council (GCC) is the UK-wide statutory body established by Parliament to regulate the chiropractic profession. Chiropractors are permitted by the GCC to use the title “Doctor of Chiropractic”, and its abbreviations “DC”, “DoC” or “Dr”.
Why are appointments so quick?
I understand that everyone lives busy lives these days, and trying to fit your chiropractic appointment in can be another tricky juggling act. Therefore, to avoid people having to compromise on care, our appointments only take a short time. These are however very specific and effective. I believe in doing absolutely what is necessary to get your body functioning better, no more and no less.
